Why should I?

Why should I/we accept some finding of some other 'human'?

I hope this will help; Because it's in the book and at the end of the day, the examiners want to know how well you have mastered the findings of some other "Human".

There are, of course, a few universities in world that offer you the chance to come up with your own findings.

To prevent the re-inventing of the wheel :) sometimes you just have to accept certain other's findings though it may not necessarily be true: Enron and the auditor...
Scientific and management theories are likely to have been developed logically (hopefully with empirical validation), and they are likely to be included in text books as they are likely to be correct....so...we may save some time and as google scolar says, "stand on the shoulders of giants"

And D, while I do that, why don’t you try looking ‘inside’ yourself for a change?
