The Call

Born free
Born a boy
In the Land of Gandhi
Giving joy
Floating with the clouds
Singing with the birds
Swimming with the waters
Dreams, just my dreams
One more stone
Some more weight
The sweltering heat; a drop of sweat
Hide and seek; games of skill
Mischief and menace
Distant dreams
Fun and games; prose and verse
Hopes buried under the stones
Love and lullabies
French fries ‘n fairy tales
Not for you
Suresh dear boy
Bread for the ‘morrow
Oil for the lamp
Burdens of dad lightened by a stone
Resting on my head
Crushing my dreams
One by one
Burdens of dad; just another stone
To the weight on my head
To sweat on my face
To the childhood that’s dead
To the millions like me
No rights
No law
Hunger, just hunger
The callTo answer
